If you are looking for fantastic sushi in Tamarindo, Bamboo Sushi Club is the place to go. They don’t have a gluten free menu and the staff aren’t super knowledgeable about gluten free items, but they do stock Kikkoman gluten free soy sauce, you just have to ask for it specifically.
You have to be careful when ordering as there are a few items on the menu that contain tempura and it’s not always obvious from the menu so it’s best to ask. I’ve also just learned that the crab used in things like California Rolls usually contains wheat (it’s made from processed white fish and stuck together with a wheat product, not a scrap of crab in there anywhere).
There is also possible cross contamination issues from other foods like tempura, teriyaki and soy sauces. It’s always best to ask questions and make sure you are comfortable before ordering.
That being said, I’ve never had an issue after eating at Bamboo Sushi Club – I’m not very gluten sensitive so your mileage may vary.
All I can guarantee is that if you love sushi you won’t be disappointed in the quality of the food at Bamboo Sushi Club. The restaurant itself is beautiful as well, seriously one of the nicest settings to eat in Tamarindo.
Bamboo Sushi Club is located on Calle Central, right across the street from Roca Bruja surf shop.
